The Origins of our Brotherhood
The Hermitage of St. Ignatius the God-bearer is a small, traditional Orthodox men’s monastery located in the highlands of the Central American country of Guatemala. Dwelling in stillness in a quiet and remote part of the mountains, the monks of St. Ignatius devote themselves to a life of prayer, obedience, purification, and love for God and their neighbor. The hermitage of St. Ignatius belongs to the Latin American Deanery of the Genuine Greek Orthodox Church of America, under the omophorion of his Eminence Metropolitan Demetrius.
Mortal men, let us leave this world of deceit! Christ calls. Let us go. For life is good Sailing above the troubled sea of care. One thought alone employs the solitary man, How he may reach the port of peace, May find the final rest from pain. Delivered of these things, how blessed is life! And who is he who truly seeks for gain, And, leaving all, asks but to bear the Cross?
